It started with this art that I bought about 3 years ago for 5 dollars at a thrift shop. I intended on painting over it (this is what artists do) but liked the message so hung it on the wall and it’s been there ever since. When I was watching tell
It’s 36” long and 16” wide and about 1” deep. It was the perfect size to go on the side of my bookcase. Now all I had to do was figure out what I could attach to the back of it. I didn’t want to use wood. It’s too heavy and I am not about to saw
Well, well, well - I had these extra IKEA frames I couldn’t use because the plexiglas was so scratched. The backing of these frames is Masonite (I think). And I had three. And they were exactly 16” wide. Shut the front door!
I mean, what are the chances? The Masonite was 16” x 12” which fit almost perfectly on the back of that canvas. All that good karma from the canvas must’ve paid off. I just popped off that hanging hardware with a screwdriver & presto!
I laid the three of them on the back of the canvas and measured and marked each hole to be about 1 1/2” apart and made five rows. I grabbed some paint tubes and eyeballed how much space should be between rows.
I drilled the holes with my trusty Bosch drill. Just as an aside, I love this drill! It’s cordless and so easy to use. I hated asking (& waiting) for my husband to do stuff like this for me. And I am quite capable of learning anything (SO AR
I don’t care for cleaning (as you know by now) so I taped a trash bag to the outside of the island I was working on to collect the dust from the Masonite. I drilled all the holes first before attaching to frame. disclaimer - do not do this on y
I included a pic of the screws and nuts I used, although I used all different lengths of screws, which i do not recommend. If I were doing it again I would use 1 1/2” screws, that way it’s easier to put the nut on. It certainly wouldn’t hurt to ma
You also need some type of a wrench to hold the nuts on one side while turning the screw with the other hand. I love this little all in one thing. It’s very handy.
That’s basically it. One nut goes under, the other over and then the screw goes in. It was a lot of drilling but it went fast. The hardest thing to do was hold the nut with the wrench underneath while turning the screw with the screwdriver. I wo
I used picture hanging rings and attached to back of frame, put two really long screws on the side of my bookcase & hung it up.
I attached mine to the side of my bookcase because I like to use every space possible. The bookcase is mega-heavy, so it’s secure, but I could’ve just as easily attached to the wall or the inside of a closet.
As a bonus the frame was about 4” wider than the bookcase so you could see some of the words on the canvas, which didn’t make a whole lot of sense, so I grabbed my white paint (I knew just where it was) and whited out some of the words that you cou
